About
Katarzyna Piechowicz a documentary photographer

Independent documentary photographer, based in Ruda Śląska, Poland. In her work, she mostly focuses on long-term projects related to people and communities experiencing exclusion.

Her project, ‘Seniors’, was dedicated to the loneliness of elderly people, and it gained recognition in the most important photojournalism contests in Poland, making it to the final in the Krzysztof Miller Award for the Courage to Look in 2019 and winning the first prize in the Everyday Life category of the Grand Press Photo 2020. She continues to explore the themes of exclusion and discrimination, engaging with local, often undervalued social groups and environments. She strongly believes that photography is a means to make the voices of the underprivileged be heard.

Currently, she is working on another long-term project focusing on the Roma community with which she became a finalist of the international grant competition " Women Photograph + Getty Images".
